This website is intended to present writing and teaching projects, some old, others brand new.

• Featured Books introduces my books, which are all available on Amazon.  In addition to some nonfiction, there are five novels. The novels are all part of a series, related to characters from Wiscasset, Maine, which has always loomed large in my imagination.  It is one of the prettiest villages in America.
• In Blogs on Fiction, you can find two excerpts from novels and several short stories.
• In Blogs on Essays, there are a number of articles and essays. The articles wander from travel to baseball to literary criticism to a wonderful young teacher in a tough town – Revere, Mass.
• I’m also still doing some Blogs on Writing & Teaching, and here you’ll be able to keep up with those activities as well.  I have published two books about teaching: THE GRAMMAR OF ALISTAIR BARNSTABLE, a grammar text for high school students, and an anthology of student essays called DANCE CLASS.

As I’ve moved into retirement from teaching at Phillips Academy, Andover, I’ve learned that I have to find new ways of communicating with people. E-publishing has provided one of the new forms of communication, but some of my books still exist in the good old paper and ink format, and this site will tell you about them and how to find them.
